Loynton Moss
This afternoon we visited Loynton Moss, one of our favourite places in Staffordshire, unfortunately we don't get there often enough.
Loynton Moss was the first Nature reserve acquired by the the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust. It was formed at the end of the ice age when large blocks of ice broke away from retreating glaciers which then sank forming large depressions which in turn formed small lakes. Now the moss is a mass of reeds and vegetation floating over water like a large raft. The path around the moss is through the surrounding woodlands.
